Locking Mechanism
Locking Mechanism
Goal: Zero hose detachment accidents without compromising the convenience of the Machino-type couplings
In demanding, time-critical environments, accidents occur where the thrust ring of joints catches on asphalt bumps or stair steps, causing unintended compression and disengagement. We have successfully developed hardware that prevents disengagement accidents by modifying the thrust ring's shape.
Issue
The thrust ring can get caught on steps or other obstacles, causing it to suddenly detach.
Feature
Create a taper on the inner surface of the thrust ring and intentionally tilt it. This tilt prevents it from being pushed beyond a certain point, thereby preventing unexpected disengagement.

The Developer's Vision
Many fire scenes feature uneven terrain like stairs and forested areas. If Machino-type couplings unexpectedly disconnect, it could lead to unforeseen accidents. Therefore, we aimed to develop couplings that can be used safely. We also created a simple, reusable structure to prevent disconnection. We hope these couplings become widely adopted, reducing hose disconnection accidents.
